FAWNN comes to you from the heart of the ever-budding Detroit music scene, and they come bearing gifts of boy/girl harmonies sung with poise and fervor by a man and a woman. As a former member of the power pop trio Kiddo, and the avant-punk outfit Child Bite - Christian Doble brings a tastefully mature and unique understanding of melody that blends perfectly with the skills Alicia Gbur has honed as a member of Detroit rockers - the Nice Device and the Von Bondies. The spunky angular beats to these day-dreams-in-ripped-jeans anthems are contributed by Matt Rickle who provides the same service for French Kiss veterans Thunderbirds are Now!, and Suburban Sprawl's Javelins. Rounding out the lineup is Mike Spence, formerly of Those Transatlantics, on guitar who adds a more dynamic presence and a tastier thickness to their live show.
This quartet evokes a certain undeniable positivity even when the cadence of the melody starts to go to a more somber place. It's the kind of music you want to blast with your car windows open right after you quit your job at the mall. They are mastering the art of mature indie-pop while still winking at you and letting you know everything is going to be okay; it's is an express elevator out of "the dumps".
